What is the reference code?
Every support gets a four character code when it is started. Something like 3FWQ or KMVP.
What it is for
Your bank message tells you an amount and a time. It does not tell you which of your supporters that was. The code is the thing that can, because it travels in the payment note.
The amount and the time are usually enough on their own. The code settles the case they cannot: two people sending the same amount a few minutes apart.
What it is made of
Four characters from a set that leaves out anything easy to misread. No I, no O, no zero, no one. Nothing that turns into something else when it is squinted at off a phone screen and typed into a bank app.
Where you will see it
- Under the QR code on the pay card, while your supporter is paying.
- In the payment note, as Kulhad followed by the code.
- On the receipt your supporter keeps.
- Beside the row in your pending list.
- In the spreadsheet you download from Supporters.
Whether the note gets through
Most banks pass the note through and show it in the message they send you. Some show it only inside the app. A few drop it.
If yours drops it, you are not stuck. Match on the amount and the time, which every bank always sends. The code is the tiebreak, not the method.
Payments with no code
A counter QR carries no amount and no code, because nobody standing at a stall is filling in a form. Those supports arrive with no message and you match them by amount and time. See Your QR code.
