How getting paid works, step by step

Six steps. Four of them are theirs and two are yours.

1. They open your page

They pick an amount, or type one. They can add their name and a message of up to 280 characters. Both are optional.

2. They press Pay

At this moment Kulhad makes a record and reserves a four character code for it. Nothing has been paid yet. The record sits in your pending list marked as started.

3. They pay from their own UPI app

On a phone, a button opens their app with your UPI ID, the amount and the code already filled in. On a computer, they scan the QR with their phone instead.

They confirm inside their own app. The money leaves their bank and arrives at yours. Kulhad is not part of this step and is told nothing about it.

4. They press I have paid

Back on your page, they say they have sent it. The record moves from started to claimed and now shows in your pending list waiting on you.

They also get a receipt link at this point, which is theirs to keep. See The receipt link.

5. You check your bank

Open your bank app. Look for the amount, at about that time, with the four character code in the payment note. See Finding the payment in your bank app.

6. You approve or reject

Approve and their message goes on your wall and the amount counts towards your goal. Reject and it does not. See Approving and rejecting.

What Kulhad never does

It never tells you a payment arrived. It cannot: a UPI payment between two people carries no notification to anybody but the two banks. Everything you see in the pending list is somebody saying they paid, which is why the check in your own bank is the step that decides.
